There are active programmes to encourage and support the industry that are being run by various organisations in the UK:

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HiE) Marine Energy Project

South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA)

DECC&rsquos Marine Renewable Deployment Fund (MRDF)

The Carbon Trust&rsquos Marine Energy Accelerator programme

Marine Renewables Deployment Fund

The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) takes an active role in representing and championing the marine sector.

A  new marine energy institute, PRIMaRE, has be sent up in South West England  alongside core the SuperGen core research programme in the UK , as well as  a number of European initiatives in marine renewable energy, including the Portuguese Wave Energy Centre

Research conducted separately by the World Energy Council and the UK Government has shown that the UK has some of the best tidal and wave energy resources in Europe. The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) publishes resource maps.

DECC&rsquos recently published renewable energy strategy document included explicit assumptions about the role of marine renewable energy in the delivery of
the strategy.
